I’m a reporter covering technology and conflict for NBC News. I previously covered Russia’s war on Ukraine for The Wall Street Journal as a contributor to its Kyiv Bureau and its Visual Investigations team. My background is in combining open-source investigations with traditional reporting, a technique I’ve taught to journalists and researchers across the globe.

Previously, I was a Senior Technology Reporter for BuzzFeed News during Trump’s first administration and the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, I became a fellow with the Tech and Social Change Project at Harvard University’s Shorenstein Center. I helped develop case studies for the Media Manipulation Casebook and created a training curriculum for covering disinformation in newsrooms in addition to lecturing and teaching workshops.

I was part of a winning team holding the Gerald Loeb award for coverage of Russia’s theft of Ukrainian grain.

I’ve also earned the Overseas Press Club Hal Boyle Award for my stories about Russia killing a Ukrainian farmer with attack drones and the lessons North Korean troops learned after being deployed to the battlefield.

I was one of the journalists and producers of Shadow Men: Inside Prigozhin’s Wagner, Russia’s Secret War Company, a documentary that was a finalist for the Emmy, DuPont and Peabody awards.

I was born in Kyiv, Ukraine and live in New York, USA.
